History

Henry O. Baker first founded his insurance and real estate agency in 1923 based on the principles of community service and ethical insurance practices. He probably didn’t imagine that more than 95 years later, his business would be stronger than ever.

Of course, Mr. Baker had a lot of help over the years turning the Henry O. Baker Insurance Group into a Morris County institution. In 1958, Mr. Baker was joined by Wharton Business graduate and Dover native Archibald Nicholas, Jr. Through passion, knowledge, and a focus on client satisfaction, the team of Baker and Nicholas steadily built one of the area’s most enduring business success stories.

The Henry O. Baker Insurance Group takes pride in being a traditional, “Main Street” community leader that stays true to its independent roots and values - one of which is family. When Mr. Nicholas chose to retire in 1999, he left the company in the very capable hands of his daughter, Jennifer Nicholas. Jennifer learned both the insurance business and the importance of customer service at her father’s side and was a natural choice to guide the company into the future.

Today, the Henry O. Baker Insurance Group employs more than 50 licensed insurance professionals among its full and part-time staff members. Since taking the reins, Ms. Nicholas has committed to reorganizing the agency for its growing future. As a result, Henry O. Baker is capable of meeting the growing insurance needs of the regional business community without sacrificing any of the individual service and personality that makes it Morris County’s first choice for insurance.
